About Radiators

This collection holds two kinds of radiator. Most are Ultraheat central-heating radiators that plumb into a wet system: tall vertical models such as the Tilbrook (1800 x 406mm), Tian in slate grey, Linear, Trojan and Imperium, a white 3 Column (1800 x 465mm), and heated towel rails from the compact Petit (420 x 600mm) to the Eco Rail at 1585mm tall. Ultraheat valve pairs and a thermostatic valve and lockshield set finish the job. The rest are plug-in oil filled radiators that need no plumbing: the De'Longhi Dragon 4 (2.5kW), Dreo OH621 (1.5kW) and two 2000W Dreo models.

For a plumbed radiator, compare the heat output on the product page with your room's needs and check your pipe layout before choosing angled, straight or vertical valves. For a plug-in model, running cost is wattage times your unit rate: a 2kW radiator at full power uses 2kWh an hour, about 53p at the Ofgem cap average of 26.32p/kWh (1 October to 31 December 2026). Our electric heaters guide compares types in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

What size radiator do I need for my room?

Work out the room's heat requirement in watts or BTU, using an online heat loss calculator or your heating engineer, then pick a radiator whose stated output meets it. Manufacturers usually quote output at Delta T50 under BS EN 442, so compare like with like and allow more for cold, north-facing rooms.

Are vertical radiators as good as horizontal ones?

Heat output depends on a radiator's size and design, not which way it stands, so compare the stated wattage rather than the orientation. Vertical models such as the Ultraheat Tilbrook and Tian at 1800mm tall suit narrow walls and alcoves where a long horizontal panel will not fit.

How much does an oil filled radiator cost to run?

Multiply wattage by your unit rate. At the Ofgem price cap average of 26.32p per kWh (1 October to 31 December 2026), a 2kW radiator costs about 53p an hour at full power and a 1.5kW model about 39p. The thermostat cycles the element off once the room warms, so real costs are usually lower.

Do I need to buy valves with a new radiator?

Usually yes. Designer radiators and towel rails are often sold without valves, so check the product page. Choose the valve shape to match your pipework: angled, straight, or horizontal and vertical for pipes from the floor or wall. A thermostatic valve on one side and a lockshield on the other gives room-by-room control.

Will a heated towel rail heat my bathroom?

It depends on the rail's output against the room's heat loss. A compact rail such as the Ultraheat Petit (420 x 600mm) mainly dries and warms towels, while taller rails like the Eco Rail at 1585mm give out more heat. Compare the stated output on the product page with your bathroom's requirement.
